چکیده

Laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) and gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD) are different disorders. The term LPR is used to describe the acid in the stomach that comes up into the throat at the level of the laryngopharnyx. LPR causes irritation and changes in the larynx. GERD is cause by the backflow of gastric contents into the esophagus, which leads to tissue damage or esophagitis and heartburn.

Role of PH Monitoring in Laryngopharyngeal Reflux Patients with Voice Disorders

Introduction: Laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) is considered an important cause of voice disorder. We aimed to determine the frequency of LPR in patients with voice disorder and the association between Koufman Reflux Symptom Index (RSI), Reflux Finding Score (RFS), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and proximal acid reflux in these patients. Materials and Methods: We performed a prospective...

Laryngopharyngeal reflux symptoms better predict the presence of esophageal adenocarcinoma than typical gastroesophageal reflux symptoms.

OBJECTIVE To determine whether the presence of laryngopharyngeal reflux symptoms is associated with the presence of esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC). In reference to An electron microscopic study--correlation of gastroesophageal reflux disease and laryngopharyngeal reflux.

OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS Laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) originates from regurgitation of gastric contents, a mechanism seemingly identical to gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Some researchers postulate a connection between LPR and GERD, whereas some assert LPR is a disease apart from GERD. We examined symptoms of GERD from LPR patients, and performed gastrointestinal endoscopy and transmiss...

Impact of Laparoscopic Fundoplication for the Treatment of Laryngopharyngeal Reflux: Review of the Literature

Laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) is part of the so-called extraesophageal manifestations of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). It is presented by unspecific symptoms and signs and is believed to be caused by the reflux of gastric content to the proximal esophagus and larynx. However, evidence considering the role of the antireflux surgery for LPR has failed to demonstrate results comparable ...
